A congratulatory letter to celebrate your birth?
Is it the postcards you send to friends during the summer vacation?
Is it the affectionate words written on your lover’s birthday?
Is it a thank-you letter to your parents? Or is it a letter to someone who has nowhere to go, a letter sent to the air?
We always have various reasons to treasure certain letters for many years and are reluctant to throw them away. So why do we keep these letters? With what kind of mood do we put them deep in the drawer?
The illustrated book <안부의안부> was planned based on this question. Through various means, we asked people: "What is the oldest letter you own?" The responses and stories from more than 40 people eventually became this book.
During this collection, the most common thing people said to us was, "Thank you for bringing that old letter that was sleeping in the drawer back to life." We often put old letters in drawers or boxes that we don't often open, and rarely look at them. Most of the time, we accidentally discover them when moving or rummaging through things, and then we are suddenly struck by memories.
<안부의안부> is a book that asks "How are you?" in response to the letter "Someone once said hello to me". It is like a reply letter written a long time ago, "How have you been these years?"
So, are those who greet you always well?
