The family diary <흔한날>, written and depicted by painter 이장미 over a period of 17 years, is a simple and moving family record.

From 2004 to 2021, 이장미 recorded the daily life of living with a large family of three generations, compiled it into a book and published it. These daily lives have no grand drama, just ordinary time of eating breakfast together at 6:30 in the morning, rushing to school and work during the day, and sitting under a warm blanket at night to comfort each other's tiredness.

She only needs five minutes to walk home from her studio to this home full of human touch. So she picks up a pen or pencil and records the scene in front of her and the emotions in her heart in a notebook. The content of the notebook is mostly a simple picture with a few phrases, forming a series of simple picture diaries.

This record lasted for 17 years. The little nephew grew up to be a troubled young man, and the mother, father, sister and younger sister also grew old. The mother was always curious about new things, the father was taciturn but delicate and gentle, the eldest sister was a cheerful beauty who liked to wear bold clothes, and the younger sister Jeong-hee was dexterous and quiet. The two nephews, Hwang-gi and Jeong-gi, who had a deep brotherly love, also left many precious moments.

As social media platforms evolved from Cyworld to blogs and then to Instagram, the diary not only accumulated memories of the family, but also 이장미's writing style and life changes. In the days when I thought I would laugh forever, my mother's body gradually became ill, and the family members also faced the next journey of their lives. And 이장미 quietly entered the middle age of her life.

In this era when the distance between people is growing and the relationship is becoming increasingly blurred, this book makes us rethink the meaning of "living together". How do people gradually become the scenery of each other's lives under the same roof? How can we share ordinary daily life with others and cherish those subtle but warm moments?
