뚝별시, 머드러기, 으미아밀, 새물내... These words are somewhat unfamiliar to many Koreans because these words are pure Korean (순우리말). To put it simply, the definition of pure Korean is that it is not Chinese characters or foreign words, but words that already exist in Korean. However, these pure Korean words are used by fewer and fewer people, and even become unfamiliar to many Koreans.

Illustrator 이인아 (Lee In-a) spent two years compiling her hand-drawn pure Korean images into a book. This book contains 42 Korean native words that are friendly yet strange, familiar yet novel. These 42 pure Korean words are presented through Lee In-a's unique, straightforward and warm illustrations, supplemented by easy-to-understand, friendly and gentle sentence explanations.
