얼굴없는사람들|The Faceless Man
While everyone is running towards the light, the author 이와 invites you to walk into the deep darkness.
We are always used to seeing the world clearly, and are eager to pursue logic, reasons and answers, as if we cannot tolerate any ambiguity. However, in 이와's works, images and narratives are hazy and flowing like morning mist, sometimes so vague that their original form and intention are almost unrecognizable. Because of this, this ambiguity inspires readers to have richer and more specific imagination and extension.
In this book, 이와 keeps asking, "Who am I? Who are you?" He responds to these questions through the images in this book and fictional stories such as "Kite", "Joke", "Fireworks" and "Bird's Song". He picks up those discarded, static and forgotten stories and places them back outside the boundaries of reality with photography and text.
Like playing a finger game, images and texts interweave and shuttle back and forth. In the end, 이와 calls himself "a person closer to the fictional world." And when he reaches a certain understanding of himself, he gently hands the baton to the reader: "So, who are you?"
